This weeks Meet a Mom likes to keep it REEL, with her relatable Marriage and Mom humor videos. Melissa Beeler’s hilarious videos have gone virial, so much so that she has had media interviews on Good Morning America, the Kelly Clarkson Show, Inside Edition, and Pop Sugar, to name a few. If you are not following her on social media yet, do yourself a favor and go and follow her after you read this interview! Her daily videos crack me up and are so relatable. We asked Melissa to tell us more about herself and how she has gotten to where she is today!
How long have you lived in Tulsa?
Your husband is such a trooper in your videos, how did you guys meet?
Yes, he really is 🙂 I moved to Tulsa for a job 10 years ago and met my husband the first weekend I was here when I was out with a few friends celebrating my birthday. I was a television news reporter and he was a firefighter. We actually ran into each other again at a fire one morning and went out on a date not long after.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have three – Our oldest daughter London is 6 years-old, our son Boston is 4 years-old, and our youngest Savanna is 10 months old.
Where do you get your inspiration for your videos from?
Most of the inspiration is from our everyday life. We share a lot of laughs in our marriage (as did my own my parents) so most of it comes from what’s really happening in our life. You always know exactly how my husband feels about something from the expression on his face, so I think that’s what makes the pranks so fun – his reactions just crack me and apparently lots of other people up too 😉
What made you decide to start making videos?
Coming from a background working in television news, I love videos and editing videos, so this was very natural for me. What wasn’t natural is being so open with our private lives, but one day I just decided to share more and people responded and related, so my comfort just grew from there.
What has the response to your viral videos been like?
Its been so fun and so surprising! The videos were really just for my community at first and I had no clue so many other people would relate to them. When our first video went viral, I didn’t really know much about TikTok and couldn’t believe how many millions of people it reached the first day. It led to media interviews on Good Morning America, the Kelly Clarkson Show, Inside Edition, Pop Sugar, and so many more. It was so fun and such a whirlwind!
What do your kids think of your work?
They think it’s fun! My daughter even comes up with pranks of her own to pull on daddy. I remember one day my daughter was looking at my videos and I told her they were just silly and she looked at me and said “no mommy, you’ve Worked really hard on these.” It made me smile because in the moment they are silly but they bring us all lots of laughs and have enabled me to support our family in such a fun way that I never thought would be possible.
What is your mom-mantra for getting through the most stressful times?
Ohh this is a hard one! I would have to say family first. There are a lot of things that I would love to spend time doing right now or I get asked to do, and I just can’t because my kids are little and need me to be present. I have to say no to lots of things, and often wish I didn’t, but I know this is only a season of life and it will get easier to balance it all as they get older. I know I will never regret putting my family first.
What is your favorite family activity in Tulsa?
We love the zoo, especially the new playground! We just went the other week and had the best time. My daughter is so curious about animals right now, and my son loves the playground and train there.
What other projects are you currently working on?
I don’t have anything too exciting in the works right now, just continuing to make people laugh with fun videos. I’ve been thinking about starting a YouTube channel this next year, so we will see.
Where can people find your content?
I’m most active on Instagram and TikTok. You can find me on Instagram @melissa_beeler_ and TikTok @MelissaBeeler2 . I have a blog www.MelissaBeeler.com that I have been very bad at updating but I’m about to spend a little more time doing that!
